What resurfacing replaces

Cross-section of a concrete pool's layers A cut-away of a pool edge. From the outside in: soil, the gunite or shotcrete shell, a thin bond coat used when the old surface stays, and the finish layer of plaster, quartz or pebble. Waterline tile sits at the top of the wall, coping caps the edge and the deck surrounds the pool. Deck Coping Waterline tile Finish layer Bond coat Gunite or shotcrete shell Soil caps the pool edge sits where the water line is plaster, quartz or pebble only if the old surface stays pool water
Plaster, quartz and pebble services replace the finish layer. Tile and coping are separate jobs that often happen at the same time.

Every service on this page works on one or more of these layers. A resurface replaces the finish over the concrete shell, sometimes on top of a bond coat. Tile and coping sit at the top of the wall, and a remodel can touch all of it, plus the deck. See the pool resurfacing process for how the work is done step by step.

Who does the work?

Pool Resurfacing Connect doesn't do the work. We share your request with up to 5 independent, licensed and insured companies that serve your area and handle your type of project. Each one can quote the job, and the company you hire does the work and stands behind its own warranty. Learn more on how it works.
