Pool resurfacing service areas by state
Service areas are organized by state, then metro area, then city.
Arizona
Arizona is our launch state. Every Arizona company we match must hold an active license with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors.
Arizona › Phoenix metro (the Valley)
Thirteen cities and towns across the Valley, from the West Valley to the far East Valley. Pick yours for local rules and tips.
Comparing cities? Our pool draining rules in Phoenix-area cities table puts all 13 side by side.
More metros and states
We're not live in other areas yet. When we add a metro, it will appear here under its state with its own city pages.
How pool drain rules differ across the Valley
The work itself is similar anywhere: drain, prep, repair, apply a new finish and refill. What changes from city to city is how you're allowed to get rid of thousands of gallons of pool water, and that's a real part of every resurfacing job.
Phoenix-area cities agree on the basics. Most want water kept on your property or sent to your home's sewer cleanout, not the street. But the details differ:
- Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Tempe, Goodyear and Surprise recommend about 12 gallons per minute to a sewer cleanout, while Scottsdale's rule of thumb is up to 50.
- Goodyear asks its water and sewer customers to get a free drain authorization before every drain.
- Tempe requires a permit to drain a pool over 35,000 gallons.
- Mesa doesn't allow replastering or acid wash wastewater in either the storm drain or the sewer.
- Gilbert lists curb and gutter as a third option under its guidelines, while Phoenix and Scottsdale say no street discharge.
- Queen Creek and Surprise warn against draining into a septic tank.
Your contractor should know the rules where you live, but it helps to know them too. Refill timing can matter as well: Scottsdale bills sewer fees based on winter water use, and Phoenix names January through March as its cheaper months to refill. For the full comparison with links to each official source, see pool draining rules by city.
What's the same in every Phoenix-area city
Every Phoenix-area pool deals with intense sun, long hot summers and hard water. Arizona sources report plain plaster often wears in 5 to 10 years here, which is why many homeowners look at quartz pool finishes or pebble pool finishes. Builders across the region also favor late fall through early spring for resurfacing.
For typical price ranges that apply metro-wide, see our pool resurfacing cost guide. For an overview of every option, see types of pool resurfacing.
How to choose a pool resurfacing company near you
Searching for pool resurfacing companies near you turns up a mix of builders, plastering crews and pool service companies. Not all of them can legally do a full resurface. Before you hire:
- Confirm an active Arizona ROC license in a fitting class (B-5, B-6, dual KA-5/KA-6 or R-36 for interiors). The R-6 service license doesn't cover full replastering.
- Ask how they'll drain the pool under your city's rules, using the city pages above.
- Get the finish product, prep, repairs, startup and warranty in writing.
- Ask when they can start, since late fall through spring books up.
We do the first step for you. We check licensing and insurance before matching you with up to 5 companies that serve your city.
Outside our current service areas?
We're starting in the Phoenix metro and plan to add more cities over time. If your city isn't listed, you can still submit a request. We'll let you know whether we can match you with licensed companies in your area.
